JuanCarlos Gonzalez is a Puerto Rican photojournalist and visual storyteller based in Vermont, whose work is held in the permanent collection of the Library of Congress.

In 2025, he was selected for Leica’s 100 Photographers, and became the first Puerto Rican to present a solo exhibition at Leica Gallery Boston. His work has been featured in leading publications including Leica Fotografie International (LFI), Vogue Italia, The Boston Globe, and National Geographic, and is recognized for its emotional depth, cultural sensitivity, and strong sense of place. Raised in the coastal town of Maunabo, Puerto Rico, Gonzalez was first inspired by images in newspapers and magazines—an early influence that continues to shape his approach to storytelling. His photography explores identity, resilience, and human connection, often centering underrepresented communities and the landscapes they inhabit.

In 2023, he launched Vermont Female Farmers, a signature portrait and documentary series highlighting women shaping the future of agriculture in the Green Mountain State. The project has been exhibited widely, including solo presentations at the Fleming Museum of Art, Bennington Museum, Billings Farm & Museum, the Vermont State House, and Leica Gallery Boston.

He is currently developing Puerto Rico Female Farmers, an ongoing documentary project expanding this work across the island, where he has already documented 48 female farmers and their stories around climate change, land stewardship, and food sovereignty.

Gonzalez previously served as Director of Arts Programming at IBA Boston, where he led community-driven cultural initiatives for six years at one of New England’s largest Latinx nonprofit organizations.
